About

I have a background in fine art and medicine, interested in the possibilities of chance and the energy of the clay, I work in an experimental, intuitive way with moulds, thrown components and hand built sections. It is a kind of 3D collage, in collaboration and compromise with the clay. Drawing and painting are central to my work as is experimentation and glaze research, I am interested in playfulness, chance as well as the uncertainty of the end result. I like torn edges, the energy of the movement of the clay suspended and made permanent. I’ve welcomed the guidance from City Lit and have been able to widely develop my knowledge of glaze technology as a result.

Clay has an intimate connection to the domestic as well as the industrial history of Britain and my work explores how personal histories and the experiences of fear, childhood and illness interact within the domestic space.
